Welcome to New Leaf Wellbeing and in starting your journey to improved wellbeing and mental health. I hope this website will give you a brief insight into Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and how I am best placed to support you as a CBT Therapist.
Many people enter therapy for different reasons however a uniting feature is recognition of suffering and the desire to explore means by which to reduce distress. Life can be tough; competing demands, cumulating pressures, conflict, they all take their toll on how we think, feel, behave and our physiology. We often successfully negotiate these daily challenges but there are times when, despite our very best efforts, these difficulties remain unresolved and we feel unable to move forwards.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a talking therapy which aims to reduce distress through exploration and formulation of our presenting difficulties and by identifying and understanding the cyclical interaction between our thoughts and beliefs (Cognitions), our emotional and physical states, and our behaviour (Behavioural). These cycles are often often repetitive, vicious and distressing in nature and arise in response to challenging situations and events that we are presented with.
A CBT approach therefore endeavours to break these vicious cycles through equipping and empowering you with tools and strategies which will enable you to confidently address future challenges and lead a fulfilling life consistent with your values.
