About Me


My name is Katy Emerson and I am a BABCP accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist with considerable experience working within statuatory and charitable organisations supporting people to manage their psychological and emotional distress. I currently work as a Senior Lecturer on the MSc/PgDiploma in Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy at the University of South Wales alongside my private practice in Cardiff.

Prior to my current roles I worked for a local Primary Care Mental Health Support Service (PCMHSS) and additionally within the England based government scheme Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT), delivering time-limited, evidence-based therapy for adults (16+) experiencing mild to severe common mental health difficulties.

I am trained in and have previously supported individuals experiencing a range of difficulties including panic, general anxiety, health anxiety, depression, stress, social anxiety, trauma (PTSD), obsessive compulsive disorder and long-term physical health conditions amongst other difficulties.

Special Interests
I have a special interest in Compassion-Focused approaches particularly addressing difficulties with confidence and self-worth.
